G.D.Watson lived and ministered in the USA in the latter years of the nineteenth century and into the early twentieth.  He was involved with the holiness movement during that time.  ‘Our Own God’ is considered to be the most helpful of all his works.  There are many of his books in print and available by directly contacting the Harvey Christian Publishers mentioned above who have offices in both USA and the UK.  This particular book is about the Person of God in His Trinitarian being.  Perhaps most will expect a  theological treatise when they see that fact, but instead, this book, perhaps more than any other I have ever come across presents a sense of the Fatherly love of God and His caring interest in all His children.  It is an intimate book and I can well remember the sense of adoration and wonder which filled my heart when first I read it many, many years ago.  Watson was a man who had evidently a deepened knowledge of God out of which He writes these chapters. This is not a shallow presentation of God, rather, the Three Persons of God in their divine inter relationships and their modes of existence are set forth as the basis for all His creating, redeeming and finishing work on behalf of mankind and the creation.  This book will help some of God’s children to understand Him, love Him and worship Him with a deepened devotion.  The processes of God’s dealings with us are taken up from the perspective of His Person and purpose.  How God Chastens us, How God deals with us, How God blesses us, Going Slow with God and Degrees of Divine union are among the chapter titles. The author tells us that these and other chapter headings were given to him on a train journey he was taking in 1896 between Toronto and Detroit.  He then wrote the chapters during his busy ministry in the months following.   Here is profound theology written in a richly devotional style.  A book to read and re read from time to time, meditating upon it as you do so.
