This is a handbook for raising personal support for missionaries, for those going to Bible College with a view to full time service for the Lord and those who desire to participate in helping those thus called and engaged in Gods’ work. It is an excellent book. Its skilful combination of spiritual and Biblical Principles coupled with lots of practical help all packaged and presented in a format that holds the attention make it a vital read for those concerned with God’s work in the world either as supporters or workers. I think a serious read of this book will radically alter your thinking about this vital area of church life. Some of us come from churches where the whole issue has been over spiritualized, hardly ever mentioned, and all that based upon wrong reading of great men and women of faith such as Hudson Taylor and George Muller. Others have been affected by the prosperity teachers and their emphasis upon ‘give ten percent, give, give, give and it is like a seed that will multiply and make you rich because God will repay you ten fold. These two represent extremism and extremism in any matter has sad repercussions. However this book is a source of wisdom and the experience of the writer garnered over many years of involvement with mission. It is about the formation of teams of givers and receivers who work together for the extension of Christ’s kingdom. It nourishes the mutual involvement and steady loving communication between those who ‘go’ and ‘serve’ ‘full time’ and those who stand with them in financial support, loving contact and continuing prayerfulness. The whole book lifts the financial aspects of church life into the noble realms of God’s kingdom away from the mercenary. Partners in service, each vitally involved, enjoying the parts that each plays. Read the book, be challenged, be changed in your thinking, be ready to be stirred to fresh endeavors of help and service by the Spirit of God and the Lord’s work shall be set forward in its way through you!
